POETRY BY THE SEA

‘Poetry By The Sea’ was my response to the brief ‘Photodocumentary’. For Photodocumentary, we were capturing photographs on location at Weston-Super-Mare. We could choose whichever style of photography we wanted, for example, portraits/street photography/still life etc, which in turn, would help us shape our narrative.

I wanted to create an untypical result from a photo shoot at the beach, leading me to explore macro photography, simply using a clip on lens for my phone. I chose to shoot natural elements for their texture and colour.

The decision to pair the images with poetry came later when I was putting the book together. I had a few reactions of disgust to the photos, friends claiming that it was triggering their 'tripophobia'. Considering this, I decided to pair the gross images with something beautiful; poetry. I used poetry that was in the public domain, pairing the theme of the poems with the subjects of photographs.

The book was produced with a linen hardback.
