WHAT’S THE STORY?

What’s The Story’ was an open brief that ended the second year. From our self-directed narrative, we could go in any direction we want from digital to print.

I was interested in exploring sculpting for my outcome, and with some research, I was quickly interested in creating a food sculpture, inspired by takeaway culture. I drew inspiration from Dominique Rayou’s Pear sculpture, as well as Erwin Wurm’s ‘fat car’ models.

I wanted to create a story of the romanticisation of takeaways, and how the idea of it always seems better than the pay-off. Therefore, I created a stacked burger that looked shiny and valuable, however it is just a burger.

To do this, I modelled my dish out of tin foil and then covered it in sculpting clay, ready to bake. Once it was baked, I primed it with a conducting paint and then electroplated it, essentially bathing it in a solution which would create a copper coat.
